Tottenham perform Bryan Gil U-turn with Antonio Conte fuelling surprise new stance
Tottenham have determined the best course of action to take regarding Bryan Gil this summer and it’s at odds with what their stance was previously reported to be.
The 21-year-old winger only arrived in north London last summer. Gil swapped places with Erik Lamela who moved the other way to Sevilla. A £21.6m fee was also included to sweeten the deal for the Spanish side.
Gil was used only sparingly in cameos from the bench upon arriving at Spurs. Neither Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte saw fit to make him a regular in their plans.
That led to a loan back to Spain with Valencia in January. By all accounts, Gil made a positive impression on Valencia officials and fans alike, though his game continued to produce very little in the way of end product.
Indeed, Gil finished the season with just two assists combined between his Spurs and Valencia spells. He did not score a single goal.
Despite that, Spanish outlet Marca reported Valencia were keen on bringing Gil back on board once more via the loan route. Indeed, Valencia reportedly lodged a proposal, though Spurs said no.
Tottenham were believed to be prioritising a loan move to a club that had European football on offer next season. That was with a view to ensuring Gil would be showcased on the biggest stage and thus retain or even boost his value if he impressed.
However, according to the latest from AS, Tottenham’s stance has now changed.
