Tottenham now preparing move for £177k-per-week ‘beast’ as Conte gifts seal of approval - report

As per TUTTOmercatoWEB, there has been an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans as the Lilywhites eye a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

Amid their real lack of natural cover for star man Harry Kane, with winger Steven Bergwijn even having to take up a makeshift centre-forward role at points, Spurs have been linked to strengthening in that department.

Indeed, Alasdair Gold claimed last month that the signing of a striker was one of manager Antonio Conte’s four main transfer priorities at Spurs.

Football Insider went on to report that talks were allegedly held over Alvaro Morata towards the end of window, but after this alleged move didn’t come to fruition, Spurs ended the window with no striker signing.

According to TMW, Tottenham and transfer chief Fabio Paratici are allegedly ‘at work’ over a move for Martinez in a ‘concrete way’.

This comes as Conte gives his seal of approval, with the Italian source claiming he would ‘gladly’ welcome the Argentine in north London.

The £177,000-per-week attacker is someone Lilywhites supporters will be familiar with after their summer interest and it’s safe to say he could do a job in the Premier League.

Martinez grabbed a brilliant 17 goals and 10 assists in 38 Serie A matches under Conte at Inter last season and there is little reason to believe he couldn’t replicate those numbers in England.

Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku, a former teammate of the South American’s, is certainly an admirer – having called Martinez a ‘beast’ who ‘keeps improving’ (Goal).

Bearing this in mind, there are certainly far worse transfer targets out there.

In other news: Levy personally makes Spurs offer to sign ‘quality’ forward who Conte said has ‘incredible potential’…find out more here.
