Tottenham now have "opportunity" to sign "ridiculous" 111-cap ace this summer - transfer insider

Tottenham can’t turn down the opportunity to sign Christian Eriksen on a free, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte’s side have been strongly linked with the 111-cap Denmark international following his impressive form since returning to the Premier League with Brentford in January.

90min revealed last month that Spurs were confident of re-signing Eriksen, less than three years after he left for Inter Milan, although a return to north London hinges on whether they qualify for the Champions League.

However, while they’re now within one point of a place back in Europe’s elite competition, Eriksen recently said that signing for a Champions League club is not ‘essential’, although the 30-year-old would love to play in the competition once again after doing so just four times for Inter.

But with Eriksen available on a free transfer, Spurs face stiff competition from a host of their Premier League rivals for the Dane’s signature, with Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle West Ham, and Brentford all interested in a permanent transfer.

Tottenham have re-signed players in the past, including Younes Kaboul, Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, and Gareth Bale, and while some of those haven’t worked out, Jones doesn’t think that Conte’s team can pass up the chance to bring back Eriksen, who he described as “ridiculous”.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s a general rule in football that is don’t go back, but in this sense Eriksen can be a rule break because he’s ridiculous and this isn’t your normal situation that has opened up.
