Tottenham name their price after Emerson Royal’s Atletico Madrid admission

Tottenham have reportedly named their price for Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal after the player admitted he was a target for Atletico Madrid.

The Brazilian was signed in 2021 when he swapped Barcelona for north London in a £25.8m deal. However, the right-back has struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot, especially since Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club.

Matt Doherty has often been preferred ahead of the 23-year-old. However, he did start the 4-0 win at Aston Villa, with Doherty lining up on the left.

But speaking recently, Royal admitted interest from Atletico Madrid in snapping up his signature.

And now a fresh report suggests that Royal will be one of a number of Tottenham stars moved on.

Whatsmore, Spurs are looking to recoup the majority of the fee they forked out for the player and want around €25million (£20.8m) for his signature.

The report from Spanish outlet Fichajes adds that Atletico are prepared to pay that amount. However, they are still keen on trying to reduce it.

Royal has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham this season. He grabbed his first goal for the club in the recent 5-1 drubbing on Newcastle.

He could also be first-choice for the remainder of the campaign after Doherty was seen leaving Villa Park with a brace on his knee on Saturday.

The Republic of Ireland star suffered the injury after a clash with Villa’s Matty Cash. However, despite trying to continue, he eventually limped off to be replaced by Sergio Reguilon.
