Tottenham latest news: Harry Kane's display against Man City was 'everything you dream of'

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons Harry Kane’s display against Manchester City was everything the Tottenham striker would have dreamed about after his failed move to the Etihad Stadium last summer.

Kane was involved in a transfer saga with the Premier League champions in 2021 and came back to haunt Pep Guardiola’s side by scoring an injury-time winner on Saturday.

In one of the standout games of the Premier League season, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham mustered up possibly their best performance in his tenure to get back to winning ways in stunning fashion and ripped up the form book in the process.

City were unbeaten in the league since October, while Spurs had just lost consecutive home games to Southampton and Wolves.

Dejan Kulusevski, on his full debut in English football, got the ball rolling when he stroked home Heung Min Son’s pass after Kane had exquisitely put the South Korean in behind the City defence.

Ilkay Gundogan equalised before the break after capitalising on a Hugo Lloris error, but then Kane took centre stage to put Tottenham 2-1 ahead following another assist from Son.

Soon after, Kane was celebrating his second, although there had been an offside in the build up and he was denied.

Riyad Mahrez thought he’d rescued a point for City with an added-time penalty, but Spurs and Kane weren’t to be denied when he headed home Kulusevski’s cross right at the last to get his side back on track in their fight to finish in the top four.

According to WhoScored, it was Kane’s second-best performance of the season behind Leicester, and Jones doesn’t think that’s much coincidence given his summer saga with Manchester City.
