Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris confirms injury blow ahead of Manchester United fixture

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris admitted the injury he sustained in Spurs' defeat at Newcastle "doesn't sound good" after the Frenchman went off injured at half-time.

The London outfit were thrashed by the Magpies at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon, with Eddie Howe's men cruising to a comfortable 6-1 victory over Spurs. The home side were 5-0 up after 21 minutes and added a sixth before the full-time whistle, with Harry Kane grabbing a consolation goal just after the interval.

Lloris had to be substituted at half-time after suffering an injury in the opening 45 minutes, which comes as a blow to Tottenham ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United on Thursday night.

Discussing the injury that forced him off, Lloris told Sky Sports: "It doesn’t sound good. I think it’s a muscle injury, around the hip. I felt something on a long kick and it doesn’t sound good. But we will see tomorrow and in a few days after a scan."

The Spurs captain also insisted he and his teammates were second best from the first minute against Newcastle, suggesting they lacked aggressiveness, before apologising to fans for the lack of fight.

He added: "It’s very embarrassing. The first thing is that we should apologise to the fans who travelled. We were late in all the aspects of the game and we completely missed the first part of the game. Obviously the second half is another story, but it’s really painful today.
