Tottenham get glimpse of Ange's spiky side as irked boss asks reporter 'what am I supposed to say?' after Fulham thumping

Ange Postecoglou was left miffed at one question from a reporter after Tottenham's thumping defeat to Fulham - asking 'what am I supposed to say to that?'

The Australian has a reputation as one of the most affable and likeable characters in football but has a spiky side which has been known to rear its head in press conferences and interviews. Celtic fans saw it often enough - shortly before he left for Spurs in the summer, he asked the BBC's Brian McLaughlin 'what do you want?' after the reporter's critical assessment of their performance against Hibs.

The pressure is beginning to ramp up at Tottenham and a 3-0 thumping against Fulham in Saturday's London derby saw them drop out of the top four. And he was asked by Sky's Emma Saunders if the defeat put a 'dent' in their hopes of Champions League football next season. And in a response some feel was disproportionate to a valid question, Postecoglou sarcastically replied: "Yeah, it’s all over. We’ll just go for sixth! What am I supposed to say to that? We’re what, two points behind Villa? What does that mean with 10 games to go?

When asked about how it could affect his side psychologically, he went on: “Psychologically I don’t really worry about that stuff. There’s 10 games to go and so much football to be played.

“If we had have won today nothing would be guaranteed, if we lost last week then nothing was guaranteed. There’s 10 games to play and I don’t worry about that stuff.

"For me it’s not just about falling into a place in a ladder – we could finish fourth and everyone is happy – great, but it’s about how we play. That’s what I’m interested in."
