Tottenham could now be 'sparked into bid' to bring £60m star to Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur could be ‘sparked’ into a transfer bid for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison by Newcastle United’s failed £40m offer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

It has been reported by multiple sources, including Sky Sports, that Leicester have rejected a £40m bid for their star midfielder from the Magpies.

The report claims that the Foxes value Maddison at closer to £60m, but warn that King Power Stadium boss Brendan Rodgers may be determined to hold onto the England international.

Newcastle aren’t the only club to have been linked with Maddison this summer; Jones and The Express journalist Ryan Taylor have both previously informed GiveMeSport of Tottenham’s interest in the former Coventry and Norwich man.

In fact, Jones told GMS that Tottenham are long-term admirers of Maddison’s, and have already ‘touched base‘ with Leicester this summer regarding a potential deal.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has revealed that Newcastle’s bid for Maddison could ‘spark’ Tottenham into making their own offer, while suggesting the 25-year-old would be more interested in a move to Hotspur Way than St. James’ Park.

Jones said: “Spurs will be watching this situation and it might spark them into a bid. I don’t think Maddison is convinced about Newcastle from what I’ve heard.”

There’s no doubt Maddison is a talented player. He registered 12 goals and eight assists in the Premier League last season despite Leicester enduring a disappointing campaign by their own standards, finishing in eighth place.
