Tottenham: Conte may look for key signing after Lenglet at Hotspur Way

Tottenham will look to sign a centre-back on top of Clement Lenglet, in the opinion of Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Barcelona star is on the verge of becoming Antonio Conte’s fifth addition of the window, but Bridge thinks the Italian could still target another central defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are close to sealing a deal for Lenglet, who’s now one step away from securing a loan move to the north London club.

The transfer guru states that it’s just ‘a matter of time’ before Lenglet becomes a Tottenham player and joins six other centre-backs at the club.

Conte’s main options are Ben Davies, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero, who were his three regular starters last season, although the Spurs boss also has Joe Rodon, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga at his disposal.

But Rodon is being targeted by Nottingham Forest following his lack of opportunities since arriving from Swansea, while the futures of Sanchez, who started just 13 top-flight games, and Tanganga could become under threat.

And while Bridge expects Tanganga to remain at the club to boost homegrown numbers, he reckons Conte could still look to add another centre-back to his squad.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If Lenglet comes in, obviously there’s Davies there as well, I would like one more and I think Conte would like one more. But again, where does Rodon go? Does Sanchez go? I think Tanganga will stay because he’s homegrown and Spurs are running out of homegrown players, so I still think Spurs will look to get another defender in.”
