Tottenham can give Man City a glimpse of exciting future after Pep Guardiola

For the second time this season, Pep Guardiola enjoyed a press conference dominated by questions about another manager.

Ahead of Brighton's visit all the talk was of Roberto De Zerbi, pitched as a potential successor at Manchester City given the impact he has had on the south coast in a very short time. This Friday almost all of the questions were about Ange Postecoglou after his transformation of Tottenham.

There was less succession chat this week, although in many ways Postecoglou would make more sense than De Zerbi. City's owners are keen for as many City Football Group (CFG) success stories as they can get - not just because it makes them look good but because in theory it reduces the level of change - and to have a former manager of a sister club taking over the flagship project would complete a major goal.

A lot can happen in a short space of time in football, and the runners and riders for City will be constantly assessed and re-assessed to reflect that. Patrick Vieira is another CFG man who has been scrutinised for some time, although his stock in other jobs has busted as well as boomed.

It is more than four years since Guardiola came across Postecoglou though, back when the Australian was managing City sister club Yokohama F Marinos in Japan and the Blues went there for a pre-season tour. There was enough of an impression made in those few days for Guardiola to make sure he followed the progress of his colleague.
