Tottenham: Antonio Conte could now 'move on' £27m star at Hotspur Way

Steven Bergwijn is likely to leave Tottenham this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Dutchman was the subject of interest from Ajax back in January and he hasn’t started a game since the transfer window closed.

According to De Telegraaf, the Eredivisie champions were keen on the Spurs winger in the winter window following his lack of opportunities under Antonio Conte.

Bergwijn had gone months without starting in the top-flight, although a dramatic late brace against Leicester appeared to have saved his Tottenham career.

However, Bergwijn has started just once since scoring twice at the King Power Stadium, with the arrival and form of Dejan Kulusevski restricting him to the occasional late cameo appearance.

As a result, The Athletic believe that Bergwijn is expected to move on to pastures new when the window reopens for business next month, with Spurs unlikely to stand in his way of a summer exit.

And Bridge would be surprised to see the Netherlands international still at the club once next season gets underway.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think he would be one of many where Tottenham go ‘we can get a few quid for him’.

“I would be shocked if he didn’t leave, whether it’s Ajax, I don’t know, but I would imagine that he would probably move on.”

Unsurprisingly, the report from The Athletic states that Ajax will renew in their interest for the attacker, who joined from Dutch top-flight rivals PSV for £27m in 2020.

But Bergwijn also has interest from Serie A, with title-chasing AC Milan, who are guaranteed to be playing in the Champions League next season, also keen on his services.
