Tottenham agree cut-price loan deal with Barcelona for defender

Tottenham are close to completing a season-long loan move for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, agreeing to pay considerably less than his full salary at the Camp Nou.

The 27-year-old started just seven La Liga games for Barca last season and is surplus to requirements as they look to trim their wage bill this summer.

Spurs are ready to take advantage of the situation and the final details of a loan move are being ironed out between the north London and Catalan clubs.

Spanish publication Jijantes FC report that the wage-split has already been agreed, with Tottenham taking on around £115,000 of the £200,000-a-week he earns at Barcelona.

While it was a disappointing season for Lenglet last time around, he has made 160 appearances for Barca in all competitions since signing from Sevilla in 2018, scoring seven goals.

The France international’s move is due to be confirmed in the coming days and will be the latest in Antonio Conte’s huge summer rebuild after securing Champions League football at Spurs.

Richarlison has been the latest big signing to be secured from Everton, following the arrivals of Yves Bissouma from Brighton, Fraser Forster from Southampton and Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

Another arrival is expected to be confirmed shortly as well, with a deal for Middlesbrough right0back Djed Spence close to completion.

The 21-year-old shone on loan at Nottingham Forest last season as Steve Cooper’s side won promotion to the Premier League and now he is close to a switch to north London.
