Tottenham: 'A lot of Spurs fans' happy to see £15.3m star leave

Many Tottenham fans would be happy if Harry Winks was sold this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Winks has become a regular under Antonio Conte but hasn’t been able to hit the heights that he has done previously in a Spurs shirt.

Prior to Conte’s arrival, the £15.3m-rated midfielder had started just once in the Premier League and looked set for a January departure.

Following a Europa Conference League game against Vitesse back in October, Winks said that he was frustrated about his lack of game-time and was hoping to speak to Nuno Espirito Santo. He had been essentially demoted to playing for the reserve team, with the entire first XI left at home for that game in preparation for the trip to West Ham three days later.

Fortunately for Winks, Nuno was sacked less than two weeks later, which has allowed him to come back into the frame.

Winks’ start against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup recently was his 12th under Conte, although many of his starts recently have been down to the absence of Oliver Skipp.

According to WhoScored, Winks was Spurs’ worst starter at the Riverside, and O’Rourke doesn’t think many of the Tottenham faithful will miss him if he leaves at the end of the season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think a lot of Spurs fans would be happy to see him go. He just hasn’t fulfilled his potential that he showed early on when he made his breakthrough under Mauricio Pochettino.”

Despite the occasional bright performance under Conte, the draw with Liverpool being his high point, it does feel like Winks has served his time in North London.

He doesn’t appear to be getting any better and has arguably gone backwards this season. WhoScored
