Tottenham: 6'4 target 'ticks most boxes' for Hotspur Way move

Tottenham could sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The 6 foot 4 stopper is out of contract at the end of the season and wants to play in the Premier League after rejecting a new deal at the Hawthorns.

Johnstone’s future at West Brom has been in doubt for some time, with both Spurs and West Ham keen on signing him last summer following the Baggies’ relegation to the Championship.

Despite opening admitting that he wanted to play in the top-flight, though, Johnstone stayed with the Midlands outfit and would win his place back in the side after starting on the bench at Bournemouth on the opening day.

However, Sky Sports believe that Tottenham and Manchester United, where he started his playing career, are set to battle it out for the free agent this summer.

The report suggests that Southampton are also in the race, with all three clubs likely to need at least one senior goalkeeper.

But Bridge reckons that Tottenham have every chance of signing him, with Pierluigi Gollini expected to return to Atalanta following his underwhelming loan spell this season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Sam Johnstone is English and he ticks most boxes. I think that one has got legs and I know they’ve been scouting in the Championship, so I think there’s legs in that.”
