Spurs: £50m star would be 'big signing' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham signing Kalvin Phillips this summer would be a major coup for the club, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Phillips is currently playing for his boyhood club Leeds United, but they look set to have a battle on their hands to keep hold of their prized asset in the coming months.

The 26-year-old’s current deal at Leeds runs until 2024, but the Yorkshire outfit are already keen to tie him down to a new deal, such is their concern about other clubs showing interest in him.

West Ham had a £50m bid for Phillips rejected in January, while the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle and Manchester United have all been linked with the 19-cap international since.

Tottenham has also emerged as a potential next destination, with it being reported that Antonio Conte is a big fan of the midfielder.

O’Rourke has suggested that Spurs will have their work cut out to land Phillips, given how much interest there is in the Leeds man.

However, he feels Phillips would be an eye-catching signing who would strengthen Tottenham’s squad if he did move to the north London club.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “If you could attract somebody like Kalvin Phillips, it would be a huge fillip to the club to get him, considering there’ll be so much interest in Kalvin Phillips this summer.

“I think we all know the likes of West Ham have tried to sign him, Aston Villa are very keen, Manchester United also.

“If Spurs were able to lure somebody of the calibre of Kalvin Phillips to the club, it would be a big signing, and it’s somebody who would definitely improve that squad.”
