Tottenham: £31.5m star 'didn't see eye-to-eye' with Conte, now set for Hotspur Way exit

Antonio Conte and Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele don’t see “eye-to-eye”, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £31.5m-rated Frenchman is spending the second half of the season on loan at former club Lyon after falling out of favour under Conte before Christmas.

Ndombele returned to the Groupama Stadium on transfer deadline day in January after making just one Premier League start in the three months he spent playing under Conte.

He did grab an assist in that game against Liverpool, but he was hardly given a look in, with the likes of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg used ahead of him in midfield.

His latest appearance in a Tottenham shirt ended sourly, too, with Ndombele jeered by his own fans after he slowly walked off after being substituted with Spurs trailing to League One Morecambe in the FA Cup.

As a result, Ndombele wasn’t involved again before his January departure back to France.

Conte responded to the incident by saying the 25-year-old must improve on the pitch to get fans back on his side, but O’Rourke doesn’t believe that the pair were ever on the same page.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It seemed him and Conte didn’t see eye-to-eye, so they tried to rush through this January loan move back to Lyon, which was the only move they could do.

“In the summer it will give them maybe more time to explore and see if they can seek a permanent exit. It’ll all come down to price and what Spurs are looking for, but I’m sure there will be interested clubs and Lyon would love to make it permanent.”
