Tottenham: £27.5m star's Hotspur Way exit 'wouldn't have fans crying'

There wouldn’t be many people crying if Sergio Reguilon left Tottenham this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Spain left-back made the £25m switch to the Premier League from Real Madrid in 2020, but he has already been heavily linked with a return to La Liga.

When Reguilon was brought to Tottenham by Jose Mourinho just under two years ago, Madrid included a £27.5m buy-back clause which can see the Bernabeu club re-sign him in either the summer of 2021 or 2022, although the player himself must be keen on the move, too.

But while this is Madrid’s final transfer window they can activate his buy-back clause, El Clasico rivals Barcelona are also interested in signing the Spurs man.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano believes that the Nou Camp side are monitoring the defender’s situation, along with several other European clubs.

Reguilon has generally been Spurs’ first choice on the left for the majority of his time at the club, making 67 appearances in total, although he’s currently involved in an intense battle with Ryan Sessegnon to be Antonio Conte’s number one left wing-back.

Having missed the victory over Newcastle and then been on the bench for the Aston Villa game, the 25-year-old returned to the starting line-up for the defeat to Brighton, although Conte dropped him for the draw at Brentford following an underwhelming display against the Seagulls.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If Real Madrid came in with their buy-back option, I don’t think there’d be many crying, and I’m surprised, because he is a proper left wing-back.”
