Tottenham: £16.7m deal 'would be quite significant' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga could prove to be a ‘quite significant’ departure if he leaves Hotspur Way for AC Milan, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Clement Lenglet’s season-long loan move from Barcelona has sent the Spurs academy product further down the pecking order, leading to a possibility that he could move onto pastures new.

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Tanganga has ‘promised himself’ to AC Milan and set his sights on securing a switch to the San Siro amid uncertainty over his Tottenham future.

The report suggests Spurs are seeking £16.7million for the two-cap England under-21 international, but the Italian giants would prefer to seal a loan with the option of making the move permanent.

It is understood that the north Londoners will only entertain sanctioning a temporary transfer if the agreement included an obligation to buy, while Tanganga’s entourage are in constant contact with the reigning Serie A champions.

Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici flew out to Milan to hold discussions over Tanganga earlier this month.

The 23-year-old has made 43 Spurs appearances, having come through the ranks, but a knee injury means he has not featured in a competitive fixture since January.

Barclay believes that Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte is facing a big decision over Tanganga as sanctioning his exit would have an impact on the club’s homegrown quota.

However, the journalist feels a move to Serie A could pay off for the defender and the structure of the deal could allow Spurs to benefit further down the line.
