Toronto Tempo sign Kayla Alexander to 7-day hardship contract

The Toronto Tempo are adding some Canadian talent to their frontcourt.

The team announced it signed Milton, Ont., native Kayla Alexander to a seven-day hardship contract on Thursday.

Alexander returns to the WNBA after spending the past two seasons with Valencia Basket Club in Euro league, located in Spain. She helped the club capture the 2024-25 Liga Femenina Endesa championship and was named Finals MVP. 

Before that, she played for Tango Bourges Basket in France, where she won the FIBA Europe SuperCup Women title and earned MVP honours.

The six-foot-four centre brings plenty of WNBA experience with her to the Tempo. Since being selected eighth overall by the San Antonio Silver Stars in the 2013 draft, Alexander has appeared in 203 regular-season games over eight seasons.

Her most recent WNBA season came in 2020 with the Minnesota Lynx, where she averaged 2.3 points over 16 games.

Internationally, Alexander has been remarkable when it comes to representing Canada on an international level. The two-time Olympian represented the country at both the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Games. She even helped Canada win silver at the 2019 FIBA AmeriCup.

Her success doesn’t end there. Alexander was inducted into the Syracuse University Hall of Fame in 2024 after finishing her collegiate career as the program's all-time leader in both points (2,040) and blocks (350).
