Canadian swimmer Ben Loewen advances to final on Day 3 at Glasgow 2026

Canadian swimmer Ben Loewen will swim in a medal final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Sunday after advancing from the morning heats at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Loewen qualified for Sunday's final in the men's 200m backstroke by finishing his heat in two minutes and 77-hundredths of a second. Fellow Canadian Ben Winterborn (2:05.44) will be a reserve for the final.

Canada's Oliver Dawson advanced to the men's 50m breaststroke semifinals, finishing his heat in 27.47 seconds. Dawson swam to a fourth-place finish in the men’s 100m breaststroke final on Saturday.

In the women's 100m heats, Delia Lloyd of Etobicoke, Ont., finished in 58.20 but did not qualify for the semifinals. Madison Kryger, of Niagara Falls, Ont., did not start in the event.

Canadian Para swimmer Reid Maxwell finished sixth (1:10.31) in the men's 100m backstroke S9 heats and will compete in the final later Sunday. In the women's 100m backstroke S9 event, Danielle Dorris did not advance to the final after finishing her heat in 1:26.28.

Scarlett Delgado advanced to the women’s 54kg quarterfinals with a dominant decision victory over Scotland’s Stephanie Kernachan in the round of 16. Delgado earned a 5-0 win on points and will face New Zealand’s Greer Hall in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Gabriel Labrie also advanced to the quarterfinals with a dominant 5-0 points victory over Pakistan’s Afzal Khan in the men's 65kg round of 16. Labrie will return to the ring Tuesday for his quarterfinal bout.
