The San Francisco 49ers' long plane ride home just got a lot sweeter. San Francisco defeated the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 Thursday night in the NFL's first regular-season game in Melbourne, Australia.

The 49ers handled their division rivals in a statement victory, putting up 379 yards of offense. After the Rams went up 7-3 early in the second quarter, they were outscored 24-0 the rest of the way. Los Angeles had a fumble, an interception and two turnovers on downs during that span.

Brock Purdy threw for 205 yards with three touchdowns, becoming the first San Francisco quarterback with three passing scores in a season opener since Colin Kaepernick in 2013, according to ESPN Research. In his debut with the 49ers, wide receiver Mike Evans had six receptions for 49 yards and a score.

Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford passed for 155 yards and one interception. Stafford, last year's MVP, had no passing touchdowns in a game for the first time since Week 16 of 2024. The lone Rams' score came from running back Kyren Williams on a 5-yard dash. The Rams lost five games last season by a combined total of 17 points. They lost Thursday by 20.
