Top chefs reveal UK's best brunch spots including two popular Manchester bakeries

It's become a mainstay of food and drink scenes up and down the country, so it makes sense that some of the UK's best chefs and restaurateurs have picked out their favourite spots to head to for brunch.

There was a time when a bacon butty and a quick brew would suffice, but now there's a whole host of establishments all across the UK dedicated to the breakfast-meets-lunch hybrid. From smashed avocado on toast to stacked pancakes dripping with syrup, people can't seem to get enough.

While we have a great selection of Manchester eateries serving up brunch, The Times asked some of the countries best chefs to pick out the UK's best 28 spots. As the national publication says, while the settings may vary, "what they all have in common is great food, relaxed dining and the perfect space in which to fortify yourself against the week ahead".

Some on the entries include a brilliant beachfront cafe in Margate and a converted shipping container in Bristol, but closer to home, two top chefs who know the food scene here well have chosen two well-known Manchester bakeries and cafes.

Acclaimed chef Adam Reid, known as the chef at the helm of The French within the Midland Hotel chose the much-loved Pollen bakery as his brunch spot of choice. On why it's his favourite breakfast and brunch spot in the city, the chef-patron explained it's "unashamedly focused on the quality of its product and delivers it in a very calm and confident way".

And in terms of what he recommends, it has to be the potato brioche buns, which he declares as "delicious". Mixing up which branch he goes to, "I go to the Kampus site for midweek work meets and the Ancoats branch for a Sunday morning",
