Tony Cascarino amazed by Rangers fan crescendo as ex Celtic striker felt radio was coming at him

Tony Cascarino was in awe as he heard the Ibrox atmosphere erupt on Thursday night.

Rangers produced an inspired display to defeat nine man Braga after extra time and secure a Europa League semi final meeting with RB Leipzig.

And Cascarino admits that he thought the radio was coming out at him as he was tuning into the game because the noise from the 50,000 strong home support was so loud.

“I know Scottish football and Celtic and Rangers are always competing," the former Celtic striker told talkSport.

"But when the the two of them play European nights the atmosphere is ridiculous.

"I listened to the commentary, I was in the car for the Rangers game.

“It felt like the radio was coming out at me with the atmosphere. I thought, ‘the lads are turning that up, aren’t they?’ What a night."

As the season runs to an exciting conclusion, the atmosphere of both sets of supporters could play a big part in who picks up the final silverware up for grabs.

Rangers move to Scottish Cup action this Sunday as they face Glasgow rivals Celtic at Hampden.

And it will be the first time since Ange Postecoglou and Giovanni van Bronckhorst took over at the retrospective clubs, that the supporters will be split exactly down the middle.

Cascarino added: “This is happening at Parkhead as well so it’s the pair of them, what they give in atmosphere at stadiums is just second to none.”
