Tony Bellew compares 'brilliant' Errol Spence Jr to Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Tony Bellew has compared Errol Spence Jr to boxing legend Marvin Hagler because he ‘does the basics so well’.

Spence Jr, 32, is set to fight Yordenis Ugas in front of 80,000 fans in Texas, nine months after undergoing surgery to repair a damaged retina.

The American will attempt to unify the IBF and WBC welterweight titles with Ugas’ WBA strap when they face off on April 16.

Spence, who is originally from New York, has spent the majority of his life living in Dallas, where he has raised his son and two daughters.

“I’ve been looking forward to this fight since I had to drop out of the Pacquiao bout.

“I knew I would be fighting the winner, and now I’ve got Ugas in front of me.

“He’s a tough champion who’s been through a lot in his life.

“I can’t sit back and fight a tune-up fight right now. I want to go straight in with
