Tonbridge Angels sign Jephte Tanga after winger rejects new deal at Maidstone United
Tonbridge Angels have added to their collection of former Maidstone United players.
Winger Jephte Tanga is the latest arrival after rejecting a new deal at the Gallagher Stadium.
He’s the third member of last season’s Stones squad to join the Angels, following goalkeeper Nathan Harness, who was released, and Sam Corne, who, like Tanga, turned down a new contract to move to Longmead.
Tonbridge have signed four ex-Maidstone players in total this summer, having also landed forward Lamar Reynolds, who spent the 2023/24 season with United.
Tonbridge must pay a fee for Tanga, given his age - 22 - and the fact he was offered new terms.
The former Leyton Orient and Ebbsfleet man arrives at Longmead after an impressive campaign in which he scored seven goals and set up 10.
“Jephte’s a really exciting player who had a good season last year playing a number of positions in the wide areas,” Angels boss Alan Dunne told the club website.
“He scored a few goals and had a number of assists. He has great delivery and is the sort of player who can get people off their seats, which is what we want, and I’m delighted to have him.”
Tanga, in his club interview, described his playing style as “electric” and “hard-working”, saying: “I like to cause havoc for the opposition.”
He added: “I’m full of energy. The game could be flat but I like to think I can spark something out of nowhere.
“That’s what I’m about and that’s what I want to bring here.”
