Tonbridge Angels manager Steve McKimm looks ahead to National League South trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough

Boss Steve McKimm says Tonbridge will need to be on their mettle to get a result at Hampton.

Angels, 17th in National League South, will be aiming to move further away from the bottom of the table when they tonight visit Hampton who won 1-0 at Braintree on Saturday.

Tonbridge are six points clear of basement boys Welling, having beaten them 1-0 at Longmead last weekend.

Looking ahead to their trip to face the 13th-placed side, managed by Gary McCann, McKimm said: “I’m very good friends with Gary and Freddie (Hyatt, his assistant) at Hampton.

“It’s going to be a tough, tough game because they are a very good side. I don’t think they are where they should be.

“But I have known Gary for many, many years. He’s had cycles of three or four years, then he has to have a change-about.

"He has done that (in) the second part of the season and he is getting his rewards from it. I know what Gary is about. I know how he thinks and how he works.

“We are going to have to be absolutely on our mettle - and forget about Saturday’s result - to get anything at Hampton & Richmond.”

Tonbridge will be looking to improve their recent away record, with the club winless in four on the road, while in-form striker Tommy Wood will hope to add to his 12 goals in their past 16 games.

McKimm will have to wait to see whether on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder James Taylor and defender Jamie Fielding will be available to him for the trip.

Taylor came off in the first period of their win over Welling while Fielding, who has been unwell, replaced him but himself was substituted 17 minutes from time.

Explaining why Taylor had come off, McKimm commented: “I think that’s concussion. He took a heavy hit.
