Covid infection rates ABOVE national average in two Greater Manchester boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates are now above the national average in two boroughs of Greater Manchester. Despite this, figures show that cases are still falling in all ten boroughs.

Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the whole region, with Trafford also now recording a rate higher than the national average. Stockport recorded a rate of 311.0 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 15, with Trafford recording a rate of 309.4 per 100,000.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 178.0 cases per 100,000 people. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 232.5 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region on the whole is lower than the national average, which is 298.3 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 6,592 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 15. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 2544 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 28 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on April 10, a total of 715 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 86 fewer than the week before, a fall of 14 per cent.

On Tuesday April 12, there were 16 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is two more than a week earlier.
