Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul scorecards including controversial American judge decision

Tommy Fury beat Jake Paul on Sunday night in Saudi Arabia, winning a split decision from the judges after being the better fighter in the contest throughout the eight rounds.

There were moments in the fight, however, where Paul looked like he could beat Fury, with a final round knock down. However, Fury insisted that this was just a slip and the numbers following the fight show how he was the more accomplished boxer throughout the contest,

The official fight statistics reveal how Fury threw almost double the amount of punches to Paul, with 302 thrown compared to Paul's 157. Paul landed a higher proportion of jabs, however, showing his accuracy with 32% landing compared to 25% for Fury.

However where he won the fight was on the power punches landed, with 49 for Fury compared to 24 for Paul. In this area, Fury showed his experience and this was reflected in the judges' scorecards in the WBC sanctioned eight round contest. Two judges scored the contest 76-73 in Fury's favour. However, the US based judge Mike Ross controversially awarded the fight to Paul with a 75-74 score.

The fight was subject to two key refereeing decisions, with Paul deducted a point in the fifth round for a shot to the back of head of Fury. Later, Fury was also deducted a point for grabbing, something Paul was seen doing far more often that Fury and this evened up the deductions.

The late knockdown for Fury could have seen him lose, but his early dominance of the fight in particular saw him across the line to extend his record to 9-0.
