Tommy Fury opponent dies aged 37 four months after last fight as 'deep sorrow' expressed
Liverpool-based journeyman boxer Genadij Krajevskij has died aged 37.
During a six-year professional boxing career, the Lithuanian fighter fought 76 times, winning just once, for 299 total rounds, most notably in November 2020 against Tommy Fury. That fight was one of only nine occasions when an opponent stopped Krajevskij.
The 'Baltic Bomber' fought exclusively in the United Kingdom, debuting at Victoria Warehouse in 2018 before going on to grace Bowlers Exhibition Centre and The Fuse in Partington as recently as last year. His most recent fight was only in August against Levi Vaughan, his 12th of this year alone.
That took place at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham, and the British Boxing Board of Control's Midlands Area Council has now paid respects in response to the news of Krajevskij's death. "We would like to pass our condolences and thoughts to Genadij Krakevskij's family and friends at this time.
"The Baltic Bomber graced the away corner in the Midlands area on numerous occasions. He was always a delight to be around in and out of the ring."
VIP Boxing Promotions also expressed their "deep sorrow". Stockbridge Amateur Boxing Club honoured him by posting: "RIP to a proper fighter."
Krakevskij's positive character made a lasting mark on the sport despite his limited success in the ring. Boxing MC Phil Seymour remembered him as a "great presence at fight shows up and down the country."
His one win came in February this year against Ryan Broten, and promoter VIP Shows shared a video of his jubilant reaction to the verdict. They posted: "We had the honour of featuring him in the VIP Shows on multiple occasions.
