Tommy Dunne handed 12-week ban for Waterford red card

Tipperary coach Tommy Dunne has been hit with a 12-week ban following a red card against Waterford in their Munster SHC opener against Waterford.

Dunne got into a heated discussion with referee Johnny Murphy and was shown a red card at the start of the second half.

The 2001 All-Ireland winning captain was cited for a Category V infraction, which includes "threatening language", an offence that carries a minimum suspension of 12 weeks.

At Thursday's Central Hearings Committee (CHC), the ban was imposed which means the Toomevara man could only return to Colm Bonnar’s backroom team for the All-Ireland final on 17, should the Premier County make it that far.

Tipperary have opened their 2022 Munster campaign with defeats to Waterford and Clare and travel to All-Ireland champions Limerick next weekend needing a victory to keep alive their hopes of progression to the quarter-finals.
