Tom Rogic Celtic heroics earn him PFA Australia Player of the Year award

Departing Celtic star Tom Rogic has picked up the PFA Player of the Year award in his native Australia for the first time.

Rogic left Parkhead on the back of one of his best ever seasons in the green and white Hoops.

He enjoyed a renaissance under his former Australia boss Ange Postecoglou as he claimed his seventh league title in Scotland and went out on a high.

Rogic was nominated for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award, eventually won by his skipper Callum McGregor.

And he's gone one better back in his homeland after beating Leo Lacroix, Floren Berenguer and Mitch Langerak to win the gong.

It marks the first time the 28-year-old has won the award, whose previous winners include Tom Cahill, Mark Schwarzer and Aaron Mooy.

He said: “It’s a huge honour to be named the PFA Men’s Footballer of the Year. To win this award voted by all my peers is very special. It’s been a great year and I hope to be able to top it off with qualification for the World Cup with the Socceroos.”

It's unclear where Rogic will go beyond Celtic although he previously ruled out a return to his homeland.

He told Channel 10: "That seems unlikely. I’m not sure yet. Now isn’t really the right time – I’ll just reflect on the career I’ve had here.

“I am ready for a new challenge and a change of scene is something that will motivate me. I’ll sit down with my agent in the coming weeks and discuss my options.

“Right now it’s just about what a great time I’ve had here and enjoying my last couple of days.”
