Tom McKibbin cards second-round 69 at weather-disrupted Qatar Masters

A second round 69 has Tom McKibbin currently inside the cut and half a dozen shots adrift of the clubhouse leaders at the midway point of the weather-disrupted Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

A second successive 71 would have put him on the projected cut line of -2, but a round that included two bogeys and three birdies was lit up by an eagle at the 16th.

McKibbin's drive at the 307-yard par four hole saw him with a 13-yard chip for eagle which he duly took.

McKibbin sits on four-under par, six shots adrift of South Africa’s Thomas Aiken, Spain's Santiago Tarrio and New Zealand's Daniel Hillier.

One of the 66 players unable to complete round one on Thursday due to stoppages for bad weather, Aiken compiled scores of 69 and 65 on Friday to reach 10-under par at Doha Golf Club.

Tarrio and Hillier had six and seven holes to play respectively, with Ryder Cup winner Robert MacIntyre, vice-captain Edoardo Molinari and defending champion Ewen Ferguson all on nine under.Round two is scheduled to resume at 6.30am local time on Saturday.

"I played really solid today," Aiken said. "We had 31 holes to play, so it was a long day and an early wake-up call.

"It's a course that I like, I've always played well here in the past. Unfortunately with the rain yesterday it got a little wet, normally it plays firm and fast, which is what I like.

"Hopefully it dries up over the weekend and starts playing more like that. It's tough competing against these youngsters these days, they hit it so far.
