Tom Lees outlines delight for Huddersfield Town teammate after deserved break

Huddersfield Town’s 2-0 win over Luton Town on Monday was a statement victory in the race for the Championship play-off places. 

Attention is quickly having to turn to a hectic Easter schedule, which starts for Town this evening against Queens Park Rangers at the John Smith’s Stadium.

There’s still time to reflect on Monday’s win against Luton for Tom Lees, though, with the Huddersfield mainstay quick to pay tribute to a fellow member of the centre-back union: Naby Sarr.

“I was delighted for him,” Lees admitted to yesterday’s press conference, as he reflected on Sarr sealing the points with an 89th minute header against Luton.

“I think the reaction of the fans and the players shows you how much everybody values him. He’s a really, really great guy, I can’t speak highly enough of him as a person, he’s a really nice lad.

“He’s a really good player as well. He’s got loads of attributes that are brilliant.”

Lees was joined by Jonathan Hogg and Levi Colwill in a back-three on Monday, as Carlos Corberan shuffled his pack and experimented in the wake of losing Matty Pearson to a potentially season-ending knee injury.

Sarr was, once again, the spare part in terms of the defensive unit, providing cover from the bench and a defensive option for Corberan.

In 14 appearances this season, Sarr has played 971 minutes, a real drop off from the 3641 he managed last year as Huddersfield fought off relegation.

“We are lucky to have a good pool of centre-backs,” Lees admitted.

“Naby wants to be playing more but he got a couple of minutes the other night and showed at both ends just how important he is.”

Huddersfield enter the Easter weekend sitting third in the table ahead of fixtures with QPR tonight and Middlesbrough on Monday lunchtime,
