Tom Lawrence opens up on Rangers injury nightmare as midfielder breaks silence after facing up to 'only solution'

Crocked Rangers star Tom Lawrence has spoken of his injury woes during his first season at Ibrox after undergoing surgery.

Boss Michael Beale revealed last month that the Welshman had suffered another setback in his recovery from a knee injury and would need to go under the knife, with the playmaker failing to make an appearance for the club since August in a 4-0 win over Ross County. The 29-year-old had hoped to be back in action before the end of the campaign but is shifting his focus on recovering in time to kickstart pre-season.

Lawrence has been among a host of star names sitting on the Ibrox sidelines this term, but has confirmed that surgery went well as he opened up on his fitness issues this term. Posting to Instagram, Lawrence said: "Appreciate all the messages over the past week off everyone, not how I wanted my first season to go at Rangers with injuries.

"After trying everything over the past five months in and out of the gym the only solution was to have surgery and get ready to play again next season. Surgery went well and I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch in the near future."

Beale has left the door open for a return to the fold next term, talking up Lawrence's impact early in the campaign. The Rangers boss previously stated: "He came into the club and I thought in the early part of the season he looked like a fantastic signing.

"He was playing to a really strong level. Unfortunately, he’s suffered a long-term injury since then but when he comes back he’s part of this squad moving forward."
