Todd Cantwell breaks Rangers silence as 'cowardly' Celtic derby quiet levelled with call for Ibrox 'unity'

Todd Cantwell insists it is up to Rangers to turn this season around and that silence after losing to Celtic is 'cowardly'.

The midfielder watched as the Ibrox side fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to their bitter rivals, a result that was compounded by the hammering administered by PSV in the Champions League just days prior to the Old Firm. It has led some quarters of the Rangers support to question players and management, but Record Sport revealed that Michael Beale is safe from the axe despite two crucial losses. The boos rang around Ibrox on Sunday after full time, and a few days removed the defeat, Cantwell has issued a response.

The 25-year-old claims he isn't shying away from the difficult start to the Rangers season, but that remaining in silence following the furious fan reactions that have followed is an act of cowardice. The likes of Jack Butland and Kemar Roofe have reflected on the game on social media but Cantwell has now put the burden on to the Ibrox squad to turn things around.

He posted: "We need actions not words however silence can seem cowardly in these times. We need unity and togetherness to turn this season successful.

"It's not the start we wanted however everything is still in our hands. You fans are incredible and you deserve to see better. Over to us."
