Tobi Amusan claims 100m hurdles in record time

Record breaker Tobi Amusan celebrates…yesterday<br />

Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan has become the world’s fastest woman in the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.40 seconds.

Amusan, a world record holder, stole the show at the first Jamaica Athletics Invitation on Saturday, beating American Tonea Marshall’s previous record of 12.42 seconds, set in April.

Danielle Williams, the current world champion and home favourite, finished in second place with a time of 12.46 seconds.

With a time of 12.54 seconds, American Christina Clemens claimed the third podium position.

Jamaican athlete Yanique Thompson finished fourth in 12.59 seconds, while American swimmer Nia Ali came in fifth place with a time of 12.65 seconds.

Nigeria’s sports minister, John Enoh, said Amusan’s performance will help Nigeria “break a jinx” at the Paris Olympics.

“Tobi, you keep making our country proud,” Enoh wrote on X. “Keep soaring, we are proud of you.”
