Timm, Saleng 'deserve a chance' in Bafana, says national boss Broos

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has given his reason for handing Miguel Timm and Monnapule Saleng their debut senior national call-ups.

The Orlando Pirates duo are part of the 23-man squad set to face Mozambique and Angola in international friendlies scheduled for Thursday and Sunday, respectively.

Timm and Saleng have put in dominant performances for the Buccaneers and helped the Soweto giants orchestrate an MTN8 triumph against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium earlier this month.

The 30-year-old Timm amassed over 1000 minutes for the Buccaneers in 15 matches as the domestic season now takes a break due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

"The qualities are clear; otherwise, he shouldn't be here," Broos told reporters via a Zoom press conference.

"Already in September, there were voices crying for Miguel to be in the Bafana Bafana squad, but I am the coach.

"When the player is playing well, you have to confirm with good performances, and he did that.

"Every time Miguel played very good games for his club. I want to be clear that he is not here because Spephele Sithole (injured) is not here. He is here because he had good performances for his club."

It may seem that Saleng is a player that recently came to prominence, given that his performances for Pirates have stolen headlines lately, but he has been on Broos' radar for a while.

"I know Saleng already from last year. We've put him in the Cosafa team, and he was playing very good, but after that, he disappeared," expressed Broos.

"We did not see him play anymore, but now in the last months, he put in very good performances for Pirates.

"He has good action, is quick, and scores, so why not give him a chance?

"It is clear that those two players deserve a chance in Bafana
