Tim Spiers: Fosun wouldn't shell out for 'amazing' international striker; he just went for £5m

Wolves missed out on the chance to sign Wales and Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore last summer, according to reliable journalist Tim Spiers.

The 29-year-old has been something of a late bloomer in his career, seemingly hitting his best form for club and country in his mid to late 20s.

Moore has scored eight goals in 24 caps for Wales, including one at Euro 2020 last summer, and he moved to Bournemouth from Cardiff City last month.

While the striker hasn’t had his chance yet for the Cherries, playing just three minutes of action off the bench, he bagged five goals in 15 starts for a struggling Cardiff side in the first half of the season, per Whoscored.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday night, Spiers claimed Wolves turned down the opportunity to sign Moore last summer, with Fosun not wanting to meet his price tag:

“Wolves chased Kieffer Moore last summer but were put off by the price. He went to Bournemouth for £5m in Jan. Not saying he would have fired Wolves into Europe, but it’s a clear weakness in the squad.”

While Moore wouldn’t have come in as a guaranteed starter for Wolves, he is someone who could have provided the squad depth that is required, as Spiers alludes to.

With Raul Jimenez arguably not looking the same player after his head injury – he only has four Premier League goals this season – the Welshman could have been a good backup option.

Moore has been hailed as ‘amazing’ by former Wolves manager Mick McCarthy and it would have been interesting to see how he developed under Bruno Lage – he certainly wouldn’t have struggled with the physicality of the league, standing at 6 foot 5 and winning over five aerial duels per game this season.
