Tides ride own goal to 1st-ever win over Rise, snapping 3-game skid
Jessica De Filippo's own goal lifted the visiting Halifax Tides over the Vancouver Rise 1-0 on Saturday in Northern Super League play in Burnaby, B.C.
Halifax defender Naya Cardoza had headed a corner kick toward Vancouver's net in the 53rd minute when De Filippo deflected it in.
The Tides (5-2-6) snapped a three-match losing skid and moved ahead of the Rise for fourth place in the NSL standings. The Tides have 17 points, one more than the Rise.
It's the Tides' first-ever win over the Rise.
Vancouver (5-1-7) lost despite possessing the ball 57 per cent of the match.
The Rise had won back-to-back matches before Saturday's loss.
It was the final match of Vancouver forward Mariah Lee's career after she announced her intention to retire on Monday.
