Thunderstorm to hit Greater Manchester this afternoon as yellow weather warning issued

Thunderstorms are predicted for Greater Manchester later today (August 14) as a yellow weather warning has been issued for rain.

The Met Office is forecasting a thunderstorm to hit the region at around 5pm on Monday afternoon, with rain persisting throughout the day beforehand. After the storm, it’s expected to be cloudy — but dry.

It’s going to be a humid day, with ex[erts predicting humidity will stay around the 80 percent mark until Tuesday lunchtime (August 15). However, although tomorrow is cloudy, it will stay dry — and then sunnier spells will come towards the end of the week.

Before Mancs can bask in the sun, however, we’ve got to endure rain. Currently, a yellow weather warning is in place for wet weather. It covers Greater Manchester, north Wales, and much of northern England — meaning you might have to go further afield if you want a getaway.

The warning says: “Rain, heavy and persistent at times, bringing the risk of disruption to transport and infrastructure. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

“There is a small chance that some communities will be temporarily cut off by flooded roads. Spray and flooding is likely to lead to some difficult driving conditions and road closures.

“Where flooding occurs, there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.”
