Three ways Erik ten Hag could unleash his Manchester United attack vs Nottingham Forest

A good performance will be just as important as a good result when Manchester United welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Despite taking three points from their opening two Premier League outings this season, United have produced two uninspiring and disjointed performances. They scraped past Wolves in their opening game of the new campaign, recording a 1-0 triumph, before being soundly beaten 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday evening.

As well as lacking control in midfield in both fixtures, United also looked toothless and bereft of ideas in attack. Their only goal so far this season has been scored by a centre-back.

With new signing Rasmus Hojlund still unable to make his debut because of injury, United's need to inject a new striker into their team has never been greater. Marcus Rashford has started both games through the middle and has failed to make any sort of impact.

The England international, as has been demonstrated time and time again in recent years, is at his very best when stationed on the left wing. The vast majority of the 30 goals he plundered last season came when he was positioned out wide.

With United's goalscoring struggles continuing to plague them, Ten Hag needs to redeploy Rashford to the left against Forest, whom he scored two goals against last term. It means he faces a big call on who should start through the middle.
