Three VAR mistakes in Scottish Premiership revealed as dubious Aberdeen penalty and Dundee no goal deemed 'incorrect'

A panel has found that VAR has made three wrong decisions in the Premiership so far this season.

The VAR Independent Review Panel (IRP) has ruled that Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski’s 'double-hit' penalty against St Mirren at the start of the season should not have stood, according to PA. Dundee meanwhile have suffered two wrong calls against them, one being a red card handed to Josh Mulligan and the other a disallowed goal for Amadou Bakayoko against Livingston.

In total there have been 407 VAR checks since the season began in the summer, 24 of which led to on-field reviews. The IRP is made up of former players, managers and coaches and are guided by experts on the laws of football. The 12 Premiership clubs held a meeting with the SFA's referees department this week to review how VAR had performed in the opening round of fixtures. Audio was relayed to clubs to give an understanding of how some decisions were made.

VAR checked Miovski's penalty after St Mirren goalkeeper Zach Gemming claimed the striker touched the ball twice. Nothing was given against the striker and it sealed a late 2-2 draw for Aberdeen. Mulligan was given his marching orders for a challenge on Danny Armstrong in a 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock. Video assistant referee Euan Anderson asked David Munro to go to the monitor but the original decision was stood by.

And Dundee were impacted again when Bakayoko was deemed offside when netting against Livingston. Tony Docherty's side went on to win 2-0 following Willie Collum ruling a goal out after deciding a Dundee player was interfering with play.
