Three players can follow Aaron Wan-Bissaka example to save their Manchester United careers

When the team news is confirmed ahead of Manchester United's Premier League opener against Wolves on Monday night, plenty of fans will immediately check who has been picked in one particular position.

Though nothing can be guaranteed in football, almost everyone has a rough idea of how United will line up against the Black Country outfit under the lights at Old Trafford. Manager Erik ten Hag sent out what was his strongest available XI for last Saturday's 3-1 pre-season friendly win over RC Lens and deployed a weakened line-up just over 24 hours later in Dublin, giving those who started the day before a rest.

Ten Hag's XI against Lens featured a plethora of household names, with Andre Onana, Raphael Varane, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford all making an appearance. They are all guaranteed starting berths on Monday.

But the situation at right-back is not so clear; will it be Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka?

It is a fierce and competitive battle, one that does not deserve a loser; both have served United well over the past 12 months. But if Dalot gets the nod, as was suggested he could after starting the win over Lens, Wan-Bissaka will have every right to feel aggrieved after a stunning recovery last season.

Having played just four minutes last season prior to the World Cup break in November, Wan-Bissaka resurrected his United career after the showpiece event in Qatar. He produced a catalogue of strong and stable performances, ending the campaign with 34 appearances to his name.
