Anthony Martial has one last big chance to keep his Manchester United career alive

Anthony Martial is one player who seems to have had more chances than most at Manchester United.

The Frenchman has been kept around by several managers but has never held the consistency to keep a regular place in the team. It looked like this was going to change when Erik ten Hag took charge.

Last summer, Martial was positioned as United's main striker and he rewarded the boss' faith. Several goals on the tour of Thailand and Australia made it look like the Reds were finally going to see the best of their forward.

Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Injuries prevented Martial from having a proper run in the team and these fitness concerns ultimately rolled into this summer with the 27-year-old missing the entire pre-season being in the treatment room.

It's clear Ten Hag has lost his patience. The Dutchman has previously spoken about Martial owning his recovery and not using it as an excuse; what better time to prove the manager's point than Saturday.

On Monday night, United looked lost going forward. For all of his strengths, Marcus Rashford struggles in the No.9 position. He looked isolated and failed to make any sort of impact.

United could opt for a shadow striker in Jadon Sancho at Spurs. But, should this not work out, Martial has the chance to prove he is worth something to this team off the bench.

The transfer window is in full swing and United have got their hands on three players well in advance of the September 1 deadline, with Rasmus Hojlund joining Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
