Three men arrested in match-fixing 'day of action'
Three men have been arrested as part of a garda "day of action" into alleged match-fixing in the League of Ireland.
Two men in their 30s were arrested in the Dublin area on suspicion of the offence of Conspiracy to Defraud contrary to Common Law and are being held at a garda station in south Dublin.
Another man, also in his 30s, was arrested in the east of the country on suspicion of the same offence and is being held at a garda station in the east of the country.
In a statement, gardaí said that Interpol officers attached to the agency's Match-Fixing Task Force travelled from France to support the operation.
They said the operation stems from an 2019 investigation carried out by detectives following reports of suspected match-fixing received from the Football Association of Ireland and Union of European Football Associations.
Detectives from the Anti-Bribery and Corruption Unit at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau also arrested a man in the northwest last week as part of this ongoing investigation.
The latest arrests bring the total number arrested as part of Operation Brookweed to 14.
Gardaí said the investigations are ongoing.
