Three key recruitment decisions Willie Peters must prioritise if given Hull KR role

Hull KR are close to securing their new head coach for 2023, with Willie Peters the hot tip to become the man in charge or replacing Tony Smith at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Rovers hooker Matt Parcell is the highest-profile name out of contract in East Hull at the end of 2022. Although the former Leeds Rhino man has attracted attention from several NRL clubs, no deal is yet to be officially completed. If Peters can persuade the 29-year-old to stay at Craven Park, he would automatically start on the right foot with the Rovers supporters. Parcell's partnership with Litten is vital to the way Hull KR play, and although a long shot at the moment, Peters may be able to offer a fresh voice to keep Parcell at the club. It seems like a big ask but anything can happen until the ink is dry.

Rovers currently have 13 players out of contract at the end of this campaign, including five quota players and an abundance of homegrown squad members. So Peters must decide if he wants to take the cutthroat approach and ultimately build his Hull KR side around a new batch of overseas stars and rebuild with new British talents alongside the likes of Mikey Lewis, Jez Litten, Elliot Minchella and George King. Or make minor changes to the squad and retain the affections of Ben Crooks, Dean Hadley and Jimmy Keinhorst to keep the continuity of the team going.
