Bryan Robson tells Anthony Martial what he can do for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson believes Anthony Martial has got what it takes to get his career back on track at Old Trafford following his encouraging start to pre-season.

Martial has scored two goals in United's opening two pre-season matches, finding the back of the net against both Liverpool and Melbourne Victory. He started both games, spearheading the front three in the absence of star striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The France international, who joined United seven years ago, spent the second half of last season on loan at Spanish side Sevilla but struggled to pull up any trees. He made just 12 appearances for the La Liga outfit, scoring one goal.

His struggles at Sevilla saw him return Old Trafford this summer with his future in doubt. However, the uncertainty concerning Ronaldo's future means that he has been given the chance to try and resurrect his career under Erik ten Hag.

And for former Reds midfielder Robson, Martial could have a role to play. "He's been in good form, he looks nice and sharp in training and in the two games he's done well - got two goals, so his confidence should be coming back, and I feel like he could have a part to play," Robson told MUTV, speaking ahead of Tuesday's friendly with Crystal Palace.

"You can't look at last season because he lost his confidence. But the season before, he was in good form. He can be a good option with Cristiano (Ronaldo). He could have a part to play as long as he keeps his head on and is determined in his performances."
