Threave Rovers return to winning ways with victory over Eglinton

Threave Rovers returned to winning ways in the West of Scotland League on Saturday.

But boss Vinnie Parker believes their 3-0 win over Eglinton at Meadow Park was anything but comfortable.

He said: “Our attitude, our workrate and mentality were exceptional.

“It wasn’t any easy game at all, it was a tough first 20 or 25 minutes. It was a proper battle with lots of heavy tackles going in. They were trying to break up play with smart fouls and we had to earn the right to play.

“They set their stall out early doors with the way they were putting in challenges and I’ve no complaints about that. It’s part and parcel of the game.

“After that the game started opening up a bit. Both goalkeepers, especially the Eglinton goalkeeper, had an exceptional game,”

Threave took the lead midway through the first half when Ross Thomson headed home a Connor Potts cross.

Potts added the second moments later to put Threave in control at the break, Danny Dunglinson adding the third 10 minutes into the second half.

Parker said: “We changed a couple of things after we played Saints. Connor Potts got his chance against Saints and took it, he scored. Saturday he got an assist and he’s scored. He’s keeping the likes of Scott Milligan and Alex Henderson out of the team, established players, and he’s taken his chance well.

“There’s not been two teams the same. St Peter’s got the ball down and played, Eglinton were a lot more physical. We knew we’d have to get street wise and adapt to that side and I think we’re doing that now.”

Parker is still hoping to convince Dan Orsi and Jack Steele to feature more regularly after they featured in the Cree Lodge Cup game against Saints.

But Phil Middlemiss has left Meadow Park to join Abbey Vale.
