Sundowns roll on with victory over Royal AM
Mamelodi Sundowns reinforced their position at the top of the DStv Premiership with a 3-0 win over Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts enjoyed some early momentum as they put Sundowns on their heels with a few sharp counter-attacks in the first 20 minutes.
Royal forced a tidy save out of Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams after another dangerous ball through the centre.
Despite the early pressure, it was Sundowns who broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when Neo Maema found the back of the net.
With the wind in their sails, the Brazilians played more freely after the interval and came close to a second goal when Thapelo Morena's shot from the edge of the box was blocked by Ricardo Nascimento.
The away side continued to push for the second goal and were rewarded for their determination in the 85th minute. Substitute Cassius Mailula pounced on a loose ball and finished for 2-0.
Bradley Ralani capped off the comfortable win with a third goal from close range three minutes later as Sundowns consolidated their position at the top of the table.
