Thousands of customers told to act immediately or risk losing their phone number

A major mobile phone operator, Plusnet, with a substantial customer base, is set to commence its shutdown in the coming days, prompting warnings for customers to take action swiftly to preserve their phone numbers. Plusnet, which is part of the BT Group, has confirmed that it will be permanently closing its mobile service in June.

Customers are advised that all Plusnet SIM cards will become inactive following the receipt of their final bill next month. To maintain connectivity and retain their phone numbers, customers will need to transition to a new provider.

A spokesperson for Plusnet commented: "We have been contacting customers since May 2023 to let them know our Plusnet mobile service is closing. We have now confirmed that this will close for customers throughout June 2024."

They added, "Customers looking for an alternative mobile service can take advantage of exclusive EE SIM only deals with all the great value of Plusnet and the speed and reliability of EE. There is still time for Plusnet customers to move to EE and keep their mobile number."

To initiate the process, customers should text 'PAC' to 65075. The current provider will respond within a minute with the PAC number, which remains valid for 30 days, reports Birmingham Live.

The response must also detail any applicable early termination fees or pay-as-you-go credit balances.

The customer then provides the PAC number to their new provider, who is responsible for completing the switch within one working day. For those wishing to obtain a new mobile number and a service termination authorisation code, texting 'STAC' to 75075 is the required step.
